Owensboro Health to Recognize Donors, Celebrate Faith in Healing

Event will take place from 9-10 am today at the new hospital construction site.

Owensboro, KY – (August 16, 2011) – Owensboro Health will recognize two donors today whose contributions are providing funds for the chapel at its new hospital.  Contributors include the Michael E. Horn Family Foundation and the Owensboro Health Volunteer Auxiliary.  The ceremony will take place from 9:00 – 10:00 am on the first floor of the nine-story structure now under construction, due to open in 2013.

The Horn Foundation has pledged $500,000.  The auxiliary first announced its $750,000 pledge in March 2010, designated for the chapel, a courtyard and an expanded water feature.

“The gifts made by the donors we are recognizing today will enable us to construct a beautiful and peaceful chapel for patients, visitors and family members.” said Waitman Taylor, executive director for the Owensboro Health Foundation for Health. “Our desire is that the chapel will provide a supportive environment for prayer, reading and reflection.”

Because Owensboro Health recognizes the integral role that the local faith community plays in the healing process—providing support and assurance to patients through prayer and visits—congregational leaders in the region have been invited to bring symbols of their faith and place them in a commemorative box.  The box will be sealed in a time capsule and kept in the chapel garden.

“This is an opportunity for our faith community to pledge along with our hospital to offer the best we have to our community in terms of care,” said the Rev. Bonnie Brown, director of pastoral care at Owensboro Health. “Our prayer is that when the time capsule is opened at some point in the distant future those sifting through the history will recognize and value our passion and commitment to meeting the multi-faceted needs of people in our community.”

Contractors will pour concrete for the chapel’s slab at the conclusion of the ceremony.
