Behavioral Health is a 12-bed unit specializing in the care of adults experiencing the acute phase of mental illness. Common diagnoses are depression, bipolar illness, schizophrenia and psychosis.
Behavioral Health uses video technology to observe patient areas and maintain a high degree of patient safety. Behavioral Health has access to computerized data to inform and educate patients. Patients on the BH unit have access to all services provided by other departments
Behavioral Health’s average daily census is eight patients. Patient care is administered by Registered Nurses with assistance from Mental Health Technicians. A census of eight or more requires two RN’s and one MHT.
In-services on mental health issues are held on Behavioral Health each month. Annual trainings include: CPR, CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute), and suicide risk assessment (QPR). Many of our nurses are certified by the American Nurses Association in Psychiatric Nursing. Owensboro Health offers on site training and continuing education opportunities that are free to staff. Tuition reimbursement is offered for specialty certifications and advanced degrees.
