Chip Pride - The Perfect Gift

At the end of 2013, Chip Pride’s wife gave him what he calls “the perfect gift at the perfect time.”

Pride was unhappy with his physical health. His wife’s gift of a three-month membership to the Owensboro Health Healthpark gave him a little extra spark to do something about it. He started with changing his diet and in January 2014, Pride became a Healthpark Member.

“I wanted to make a change,” Pride said. “I did the health assessment with the staff and found out where I was.”

Pride started with cardio and strength training and then expanded that in January 2015 with the spinning (a strenuous form of cycling) class. Pride said he also enjoys playing basketball and racquetball with his family and taking advantage of the aquatics facilities the Healthpark offers.

A year later, Pride has lost 100 pounds, lowered his blood pressure and said he’s much happier with his physical strength and physical condition.

“It (coming to the Healthpark) has been critical. I had to do it with diet and exercise and this gave me a place to go where there are others are here for the same reasons,” Pride said. “The Healthpark gives me a lot of options to keep it interesting and fresh.”

Pride said he also gets a lot of encouragement and motivation to keep at it from the Healthpark’s staff and his fellow members.

“It's a welcoming environment, it's a great place to come in and get your workout done,” Pride said. “There are experts and processes on hand to keep you motivated. There's great fellowship here too. I enjoy coming back.”

And Pride said it all started with a well-timed gift card.

“It’s helped me recapture the fitness I once had and regain my life,” Pride said.
