Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for both Hospital and Home Health Accreditation, after demonstrating continuous compliance in the areas of quality and safety.

Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital underwent a rigorous, unannounced two-day survey by Joint Commission surveyors in December 2016. The survey team, which included physician and nurse experts, evaluated compliance with hospital and home care standards related to several areas, including emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control, leadership, and medication management.

Dr. Ed Heath, CEO of Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital, said the survey process looked deeply at the workings at the facility and its related services.

“Every team member plays a role in a successful Joint Commission Accreditation Survey,” Dr. Heath said. “Our ability to work well together and implement approaches that improve safety, quality and value of healthcare for our community was recognized by the surveyors during their closing review.”

One area that performed especially well was Home Care, said Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Kathy Mitchell, RN.

During the survey there were no nursing deficiency findings, no medical staff deficiencies, and no medication management deficiencies, all of which are not uncommon to find in a survey,” Mitchell said. “There’s a lot of hard work demonstrated in the survey results.”

Dr. Heath said he is very pleased with the survey findings and with his staff’s dedication and performance.

“We have a great team,” Dr. Heath said. “I think it's a great accomplishment.”
