Profile
Coming to Owensboro Health
Dr. Adams joined the medical staff at Owensboro Health in 2004 after practicing at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Somerset, where he served as medical director for Lake Cumberland's Heart and Lung Institute and its cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program.
History with minimally-invasive techniques
In the late 1990s, Dr. Adams began utilizing minimally invasive surgical techniques, including MIDCAB and port-access revascularization, complementing his training in mini-mitral valve surgery and the mini-sternotomy approach for aortic valve work. He began performing off-pump bypass surgery in 2001, finding it provided many patients with quicker recovery and better outcomes. In his thoracic practice, Dr. Adams utilized video-assisted thoracic surgery and muscle-sparing techniques prior to robotics.
Using da Vinci®
Beginning in October 2009, Dr. Adams began employing robotic-assisted cardiac revascularization and thoracic oncology procedures. He has performed over 400 of these surgeries utilizing the da Vinci® surgical system, including lobectomies, pneumonectomies, and single and multi-vessel bypasses.
