RP-7 Robotic Technology
Here’s a bold idea: what if a hospital, already rated among the nation’s best, could bring even more advanced specialty care into its ED—by using a robot?
It’s already happening at Owensboro Health.
Our emergency department is home to the RP-7, a 5-foot, 6-inch robot that gives neurology specialists at UofL Healthcare the ability to assess and treat patients in our ED.
Features
- The robot’s powerful video communication tool makes it possible for doctors to examine patients—and communicate with them—from a separate location. Through the robot, patients see, hear and talk to the doctor as if he or she were at the bedside.
- The RP-7 can also be used to check vital signs, read lab work, and perform examinations.
- Joystick control allows physicians and staff to maneuver the robot as needed.
In 2007, Owensboro Health became one of the first hospitals in the region to acquire the RP-7 robot. Today it serves as a complementary tool to our existing emergency and neurological services.
