Meet Our Program Manager
Debbie Wilson, RN, BSN, has served in a variety of leadership roles during her 30-year tenure at Owensboro Health. She assumed the role of Hospitalist Manager in November 2010 and has been pleasantly surprised at how quickly the program has grown.
Benefits to Patients, Providers
Even before Owensboro Health begain its hospitalist program, Debbie was intrigued with the concept of hospital-based providers and the potential benefits for both patients and physicians.
- First, hospitalist physicians and nurse practitioners are dedicated to treating hospitalized patients. For local primary care providers, that means more time to focus on office patients without being stretched between the outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Second, by spending their time in the hospital, hospitalist providers have the opportunity to coordinate the treatment plan with other physicians, follow up on pending labs and diagnostic studies throughout the day and night. Most importantly they are readily available to meet with the patient and their families to discuss long term care needs.
Goals of the Program
The goal of the Owensboro Health hospitalist program is to provide excellent care to all patients during hospitalization. The Owensboro Health hospitalist team holds multidisciplinary morning meetings to discuss each patient’s progress. We review diagnostic test results, discuss current medications with pharmacist, in addition to working with Case Management to determine follow up care needed at discharge.
