Lactation Care Award

Owensboro Health was recently honored as an IBCLC Care Award facility by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA).

This award recognizes hospitals, birthing facilities, and birthing services that hire currently certified International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) and have a dedicated lactation support program available.

These facilities also have demonstrated they have provided training for their nursing, medical, and other staff that care for breastfeeding families, and have implemented special projects that promote, protect, and support breastfeeding.

If you choose to breastfeed, the board-certified lactation consultants at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital are ready to help you learn what to expect, how to get started and what it takes to maintain a successful nursing relationship.

In addition to general breastfeeding instructions, we help new moms with common, but frustrating, issues such as latching difficulties, painful nursing, low milk productions or inadequate weight gain. We can also help you choose the right breastfeeding equipment, including pumps, bottles and other supplies.

Owensboro Health lactation consultants are available by request for all New Life Birthing Center patients, and by appointment for moms and babies already discharged.
