Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit is a 12-bed inpatient acute-care unit for patients 60 years of age and older who may be experiencing a crisis related to mental illness or dementia diagnosis.

Accessing Care 

When you or your loved one needs urgent behavioral health services, you may go to the hospital’s Emergency Department. A compassionate healthcare professional will assess your needs in a safe environment and ensure you get the right care.

Patients may also come to our inpatient treatment program through a referral from their provider.

Psychiatric Treatments & Services 

If you’re admitted to the Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit, a psychiatrist will diagnose your condition and make personalized recommendations for treatment along with medication management. 

We specialize in caring for patients who may have severe depression, excessive worry or anxiety, confused or delusional thinking, behavioral disturbances related to dementia, or who may be a danger to themselves or others. Our nurses develop relationships with patients via one-on-one interactions and facilitating groups with patients. 

Our highly trained team provides a program that supports our patients so they can return to functioning safely within their typical community environment.

Multidisciplinary Team

Behavioral Health conditions can affect your body, mind, spirit, and relationships. So, at Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center, you’ll get expert care from a multidisciplinary team. This means our patients and their families, will get access to experienced nurses, social workers, nurse practitioners, therapists, chaplains, pharmacists and hospitalists.

Length of Stay

Your care team will help you determine when you’re ready to leave the hospital. On average, patients stay about ten days. Following discharge, we’ll ease your transition to outpatient behavioral health care so you can continue progressing.

Visiting Hours & Age Restriction

  • Monday - Friday, 5 to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday & Saturday, 2 to 4 p.m.

No more than two visitors are allowed at a time. Visitors must be 16 years old or older and all minors must be accompanied by an adult.
