Deborah Bunger has lived and practiced all over the country, but in the end, her roots brought her back home.
Originally from Louisville, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro before graduating from medical school at the University of Louisville. She completed an internship in New York and a residency in Boston before moving to California, where she practiced psychiatry in several cities before returning to Kentucky in 2018 and serving as a traveling doctor in Lexington, Paducah and Hazard.
Now that she is settled at Owensboro Health, Dr. Bunger is ready to serve the people of the community. She has known she wanted to be in psychiatry since she was seven years old, and she loves using her skills to help people and have a positive impact on their health. “Psychiatry is one of the specialties that really can make a difference in people’s lives,” she said. “It’s very satisfying to see people really change their life.”
Dr. Bunger enjoys living in Owensboro. “Owensboro is a very special place,” she said. “Most of the country could not imagine how friendly people are here.” She fills what free time she has with reading, gardening, attending Toastmasters International meetings and taking her Boston Terrier to the dog park.
