Biography
As a primary care sports medicine physician, Dr. W. Scott Black functions as a family doctor with specialized training in the treatment and prevention of illness and injury. In other words, he provides comprehensive health care for active patients and patients who are seeking to improve their health with exercise and good nutrition choices.
Dr. Black’s goal is to help people replace unhealthy behaviors with positive habits so they can improve their health and quality of life. This approach works to prevent, treat and even reverse diseases affecting patients’ lives.
Through lifestyle medicine, he helps patients realize they can be their own best doctors by learning how to manage their own health. “I get a sense of accomplishment when I see someone improve their health or physical performance as I’m working with them,” he said.
With a long-time interest in running and endurance sports-related injuries, he started the Runners’ Clinic at the University of Kentucky and has worked with the track teams at both UK and the University of Louisville, along with elite marathon runners, including a winner of the Boston Marathon.
A Kentucky native, Dr. Black is impressed with the Owensboro area and the friendly people here. He’s excited about the resources of Owensboro Health and the chance to start a new lifestyle and sports medicine practice.
Dr. Black earned his Master’s and Medical degrees from the University of Kentucky. He most recently served as the Chair of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies at UK before moving to Owensboro.
