Here's to Your Heart Photos
The 7th annual Here's to Your Heart event was another big success. Hundreds of guests dropped by the Owensboro Health Healthpark on Saturday, Feb. 22 to visit with heart experts, attend a cooking demonstration, and participate in fitness exercises.
OwensoboroHealth.org was there, with camera in hand, to capture some of the highlights!
Dance Your Way to Fitness
For the second straight year, Owensboro Dance Theatre partnered with the Healthpark to make the heart event happen. In this picture, instructors Shauna Jones and Kim Johnson showcase L.E.A.N., an exercise program that teaches kids how to live a healthier, more active lifestyle.
Theatre staff also gave fitness demos and played videos of recent performances.
Knowledge is Power
Here's to Your Heart guests enjoy visiting with our heart experts to learn more about staying healthy.
Michele Lewis and Annette Blincoe, Owensboro Health Cardiology, visit with Thelma J. Matthews, 80, of Owensboro. After two stent placements in 2001, Mrs. Matthews has made heart health a top priority. "I just enjoy learning what I can do to improve," she says.
Mary Guthrie, a critical care nurse with Owensboro Health, displays the sugar content in common foods—such as mayonnaise, hot dogs and cola. "Most people are very surprised," she says.
Brenda Tucker, Owensboro, says the display was informative. "I read labels, but I was surprised to learn that mustard can be very salty, despite it being zero-fat."
Kim Day, an exercise physiologist with Owensboro Health Heart and Lung Rehabilitation, discusses heart disease risk factors using an interactive tool. "We do this every year to give the public more education," she says.
