One Health Welcomes New Palliative & Hospice Care Specialist [VIDEO]

Owensboro Health’s One Health medical group is proud to welcome a new provider, Dr. Melanie Farrell, who holds board certification in both internal medicine and hospice and palliative medicine.

Dr. Farrell is a native of Pensacola, Florida and holds a bachelor’s degree from Tulane University and a medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Dr. Farrell then completed her internal medicine residency and internship at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Dr. Farrell also completed fellowship training in palliative medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine.

Dr. Farrell also has experience in teaching medical students at the University of Oklahoma at Tulsa and Oklahoma City, as well as at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is board certified in hospice and palliative care and also in internal medicine.

As a palliative and hospice care specialist, Dr. Farrell specializes in end of life and quality of life issues.

“There was a huge need for palliative care and I wanted to bring the skill set and share it,” Dr. Farrell said. “There's still a lot of care we can provide even when a cure is not possible.”
