Owensboro Health Earns Recognition for Stroke Treatment

Owensboro Health has earned a Get With The Guidelines Performance Achievement Award, netting Silver Plus status for outstanding work to treat cardiovascular and stroke events.

The recognition is jointly awarded by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, with Silver Plus status signifying that Owensboro Health has met standards of care for stroke for 12 consecutive months. It also means that the health system has achieved compliance on 75 percent or more of on stroke treatment measures.

Debbie Tate, the clinical program specialist and stroke program coordinator, said achieving this award carries a lot of meaning for the organization.

“We're right in the center of the stroke belt so we've worked very hard to improve stroke care,” Tate said. “Receiving the Silver Plus award is a reflection of the quality of care provided to our patients.”

Tate said the location of Owensboro Health Regional Hospital also means it can make a huge difference for patients needing care throughout the region. Owensboro Health also is cultivating relationships with larger institutions when more advanced care, such as interventional radiography is needed.

“Time saved is brain saved,” Tate said.
