Owensboro Health To Hold First “Grand Rounds” Educational Event For Healthcare Professionals
Owensboro Health will host its first Grand Rounds educational event next month, paving the way for future educational events for health system staff.
The Grand Rounds event will take place at 7 a.m. on August 5 in the Café A meeting room at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. The session will cover appropriate use of , a type of broad-spectrum antibiotic. In May of this year, the Food and Drug Administration warned healthcare facilities and providers that use of this class of antibiotics should be limited because of potential side effects.
Clinical Pharmacy Manager B.C. Childress, PharmD, and Residency Coordinator Zachary Ward are coordinating the event, which is meant to build networks of communication for providers.
“The practice of medicine and the number of medications on the market change almost daily. It's best for the patient and our health system if we are using evidence-based practices to promote the safest, highest quality of care,” Dr. Childress said. “I hope people find it a useful forum to learn the latest information in healthcare and to network. We want to promote a patient-centered team.”
Ward said the ultimate goal is for this to be a recurring event, taking place every two months, which can also fulfill the continuing education requirements that providers must satisfy to maintain their licenses to practice.
“It makes sense to get healthcare professionals from across many disciplines together so we can learn from each other and make a better experience,” Ward said.
