Owensboro Health Regional Hospital To Host Walk-Through Colon Exhibit

Kentucky Cancer Program’s “The Incredible Colon” will be on display on March 27

Owensboro Health Regional Hospital will host a free educational exhibit titled, “The Incredible Colon” on March 27, thanks to a partnership with Kentucky Cancer Program.

This walk-through exhibit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, March 27, in the lobby of the Pleasant Valley Center (the medical office building adjacent to the hospital). The display, presented by KCP, has made previous stops in cities throughout Kentucky.

“The Incredible Colon exhibit is a fun, interactive way to educate people about digestive health,” said Jaime Rafferty, cancer control specialist for Kentucky Cancer Program’s Green River district. “It connects with visitors of all ages and helps them understand the importance of staying healthy.”

“The Incredible Colon” allows guests to stroll through a 20-foot replica of the human colon, which is responsible for absorbing water and removing waste from the body. As visitors move through the exhibit, they learn how the colon functions and what steps they can take to improve and maintain digestive health. “The Incredible Colon” also demonstrates how to identify and avoid colorectal diseases, including cancer.

The exhibit is free and will be staffed by health professionals from Owensboro Health and Kentucky Cancer Program, who will be available to answer questions and distribute educational materials.

“Owensboro Health is always seeking new ways to educate people about important health topics, such as colorectal cancer,” said Debbie Zuerner Johnson, director of community engagement for Owensboro Health. “We are proud to host Kentucky Cancer Program, because we know that this information could be life-changing.”

“The Incredible Colon” exhibit is part of Owensboro Health’s observance of National Colon Cancer Awareness Month. The exhibit will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the lobby of the Pleasant Valley Center (the medical office building connected to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital). Visitors are welcome to use the B parking lot and entrance for easiest access to the exhibit.
