Owensboro Health working on solutions
and resources for contract with WellCare
of Kentucky

These resources can
help you update your
Medicaid provider
in 2019:

  • The Kentucky Department
    for Community-
    Based Services -
or visit a local Department for Community Based Services office.
  • Online. Visit to select an MCO change or go to Owensboro Health’s website for additional resources.

  • Owensboro Health. Our patient financial advocates can help answer your questions. Call 270-685-7501.

The Kentucky Medicaid enrollment period runs through Nov. 30.

Owensboro Health has been listening to and reading responses from people throughout our region, and we want to keep you updated on our progress and what we've learned.

Representatives of the health system are continuing to work toward a solution with WellCare, and we are hopeful that we can reach an agreement.

If an agreement is not reached, Owensboro Health will notify the communities we serve, and we will also offer whatever resources and help we can so that people in our region can have access to care.

We also want you to know that visitors to the emergency departments at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital and Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital will receive emergency care, regardless of their ability to pay, as emergency care is protected and required by the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act.

Our goal in sharing information about the contract ending was so that people could choose their Medicaid coverage knowing which insurances are accepted at our facilities. Owensboro Health continues to contract with three Medicaid providers: Aetna Better Health of Kentucky, Humana CareSource and Passport Health Plan. Should you miss the enrollment window, WellCare patients could have additional options, such as filing a disenrollment form with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

We'll continue to keep you informed throughout this process and we appreciate your feedback and your patience throughout this process. Owensboro Health's mission is to heal the sick and to improve the health of the communities we serve, and we are grateful to people throughout our communities who come to us with their healthcare needs.

Note: Owensboro Health is not seeking to steer members but will answer questions and provide assistance if the patient chooses to update their managed care organization.
