COVID-19 Update - April 21
Dr. Francis DuFrayne
We say “we’re in this together” because it’s true. We depend on the actions of others to slow the spread of the virus: following the guidelines and staying physically distant. We count on each other for phone calls, FaceTime and Zoom meetings to keep us connected while we’re apart. We lift up our healthcare workers and essential employees, who put others before themselves. And we rely on the generosity of others who donate PPE or use their talents to make cloth masks for us. This week Owensboro Health received donations of cloth masks from across the country, reminding us just how connected we are - even when we’re six feet apart.
OHRH's Design and Size Provide Advantages During Pandemic
Greg Strahan
President and CEO
Owensboro Health President and CEO Greg Strahan discussed how building a new hospital helped prepare our region for COVID-19 in today’s Messenger-Inquirer. “Through the coronavirus outbreak, I think many people are discovering the capabilities that Owensboro Health Regional Hospital really has,” he said. “Many people might not have been aware of the technology, the expertise and the services that are available here.” Read the full article here

Eye Protection
Any clinically facing team member required to be within six feet of others must wear a mask AND eye protection. Regular glasses do not count as eye protection, but safety glasses that wrap around your face are acceptable. Each team member will receive one face shield and is responsible for keeping it clean. Our team’s safety is a top priority and we need your help to ensure that you are following all PPE guidelines with every patient, every time.
Drive-Through Lab Options
Owensboro Health now has drive-through lab options at multiple locations, providing an opportunity to see patients while limiting their exposure to COVID-19.
Locations
- The Lab at The Springs (Building A) - open to anyone with lab service orders
- Madisonville Multicare - open to anyone with lab service orders
- Cardiology Coagulation Clinic - for patients with appointments
- Oncology Lab - for patients with appointments

Telehealth Virtual Visits
In an effort to reduce the risk of exposure for our patients and team members, we are offering telehealth virtual visits. This allows our community to get the care they need without the concern of leaving home and keeps our team’s safety at a top priority. Call before you visit and see if a virtual appointment is an option for you.
Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center

We are proud to partner with the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center as we look to identify critically ill patients that may benefit from COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma (CCP). People who recover from COVID-19 make antibodies against the virus in the plasma component of their blood. Evidence shows this convalescent plasma can be used as a treatment for patients with COVID-19. We appreciate all they are doing to support the treatment of the virus and we look forward to using this treatment here soon.
