Owensboro Health Foundation Cancels Annual Fundraising Events
After thoughtful consideration, Owensboro Health Foundation has announced the decision to cancel its Annual Golf Classic and the Annual Black Tie Gala fundraising events for 2020. The golf tournament was originally scheduled for June 12 at Owensboro Country Club, but had been postponed to September 11. The gala was scheduled to be held November 7 at the Owensboro Convention Center. With over 200 golfers and volunteers slated to participate and over 650 in attendance at the gala in 2019, the expected gathering for this year’s events would make physical distancing in the traditional event formats extremely difficult to ensure and manage.
“As the largest provider of healthcare in Kentucky west of Louisville, we believe it is our duty to promote and adhere to guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19. It is simply no small task to accomplish even outside or when serving a sit down dinner and awards ceremony for 650 people. The decision is a difficult one, but it is in line with our mission to help ensure the health and wellness of the communities we serve,” said Cathie Medley, Manager of Annual Giving at Owensboro Health Foundation.
The Annual Golf Classic and the Annual Black Tie Gala are Owensboro Health Foundation’s largest fund raising events providing nearly $250,000 to address the most pressing needs. Since its inception, Owensboro Health Foundation has supported numerous Owensboro Health programs that impact the health and wellness of those living in our region. In the most recent fiscal year ending May 31, 2020, over 17,000 patients, family members, friends and neighbors benefited through programs funded by efforts like the annual gala.
Free mammograms for medically underserved women offered through the Mammograms for Life program, free car seats, free bicycle helmets for children, enhanced services and equipment in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, low-cost lodging in the C. Waitman Taylor Jr. Hospitality Suites, backpacks for the homeless, nursing simulation equipment, hearing amplifiers, scales, and reading glasses for the elderly are but just a few of the many programs and services made possible by Owensboro Health Foundation.
Owensboro Health Foundation views every dollar in hand as a tool that can make a difference in the lives and health of people throughout the communities served. Every dollar raised can be applied to fund programs and services that benefit thousands of people with a multitude of needs throughout the region.
Owensboro Health Foundation relies on the generous support of donors to sustain its health and wellness initiatives. If you would like to support Owensboro Health Foundation, patients and families in the region, your support is greatly needed and welcome in light of the cancellation of the annual golf tournament and gala.
