COVID-19 Update: Cases Declining, Booster Updates Expected

COVID-19 Cases Beginning To Decline
The number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients is beginning to decline at Owensboro Health hospitals, as well as across the state. We welcome this news, as it will take a lot of pressure off our healthcare workers and health system. We strongly encourage everyone to continue working together to lower the numbers.

Owensboro Health staff vaccination rate is approximately 72 percent, and Daviess County’s vaccination rate is improving slowly but steadily. Combined with all of the masking and safety precautions, these measures are the reason we are seeing such major improvement.

Booster Updates Expected

Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine boosters are expected to be approved by the FDA as early as Thursday. Watch OwensboroHealth.org and our social media channels for updates on this news, as most Owensboro Health team members received the Moderna vaccine and would soon qualify for a booster.

Approval for a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for ages 5-11 will also likely be approved soon. Owensboro Health Regional Hospital will make accommodations to vaccinate these individuals on-site, and add a dedicated pediatric station for them.

As always, if you need a vaccine or to learn more, visit OwensboroHealth.org/Vaccine.
