Owensboro Health renames hospitality suites in honor of Waitman Taylor

By Ashley Sorce, Owensboro Times

Owensboro Health opened their hospitality suites in 2013, providing the family members of patients an affordable place to stay while their loved ones receive treatment. This week they renamed the suites after the late C. Waitman Taylor, Jr.

According to Owensboro Health CEO Greg Strahan, the idea for the hospitality suites came from Taylor, a long-time board member of the Owensboro Health Foundation who died in early 2019.

“This was his heart, really, to have the hospitality suites that are available for anybody, whether you have money or not,” Strahan said.

Owensboro Health offers single and double bedroom suites, accommodating four to six people as well as ADA compliant suites. Cost ranges from $25 to $35, but financial assistance is available.

According to Strahan, Taylor wanted to bring this amenity to Owensboro Health after experiencing similar hospitality suites at other hospitals around the country when his late wife was battling cancer.

“We want to rename these after Waitman, in honor of his work and accomplishments through the years for the foundation,” Strahan said.

A ceremony was held Monday revealing a plaque in Taylor’s honor and the official new name — C. Waitman Taylor, Jr. Hospitality Suites.
