Volunteens: A Summer Gig

Volunteers at the hospitalVolunteers make a huge contribution to Owensboro Health and the Volunteens are no different. This year’s group contains a little over fifty students ages 14 to 18, most of whom are local, but some who come from distant places. This year’s farthest traveler is from Wisconsin!

Volunteens come from near and far to get experience in the medical field, to earn school credit, to gain the experience of a working environment and to learn skills like teamwork and time management. Volunteen Team Leader, Leanne Atherton, is happy to be leading this program for the second summer. “It’s really a great program that gives teens an opportunity to get inside the hospital and see how things work. It helps them mature and it seems they really learn a lot while they’re here.”
