New Registration Workflow uses Kiosks
Owensboro Health recently purchased two Kiosks that will streamline the registration process and positively impact the patient experience. IT and OHMG operational leaders worked together on this project that will soon go live at two OHMG locations.
Patients can perform self-service tasks, such as checking into appointments and paying copays with the help of these user-friendly “Welcome” stations.
The new devices give patients control over their care and a better understanding of billing processes, while also allowing guest services to focus on patients in need of more assistance.
Pilot locations for the Welcome Kiosks are the Pleasant Valley Medical Building, located on the fifth floor, which serves neurology, orthopedics and outpatient laboratory, and on the first floor of the Parrish Medical Building (primary care, family medicine residency and outpatient lab). The first will go live on February 17, while the second is coming at the end of the month.
Welcome Kiosks allow patients to enter visit-related details and update their information.
As they check in, patients can:
- Identify themselves by entering a piece of personal information or by scanning an ID, such as a credit card or driver’s license. The built-in patient narrowing feature ensures patients, even those with common names, don’t accidentally check in as the wrong person.
- Verify and update demographic and emergency contact information.
- Review and edit information about allergies, health issues and medications. Changes patients make automatically go to clinicians for review.
These capabilities are supplemented by an additional five tablets at each location to be distributed to patients which allow them to answer health history questionnaires and sign consent forms.
