Vaccination Clinics on a Roll!
County fairs. Basketball tournaments. Local parks. Owensboro Health vaccination teams have been taking every opportunity to bring the shot to willing arms in our local communities.
“Every single vaccination brings us one step closer to ending this pandemic,” said Jason Collins, director of inpatient pharmacy for Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. “Many people have difficulty coming to us, so we’ve been going to them.”
In Daviess County, where vaccination rates hover around 45 percent, OHRH’s vaccination team has taken to the streets to help improve the numbers. They have appeared at Friday After 5, the Dust Bowl basketball tournament, and the Daviess-McLean Baptist Association. OHRH has also partnered with local schools to appear at school events and to bus students to the hospital for vaccinations. Collins says they are working on future plans with local colleges and universities.
Meanwhile, in Muhlenberg County, the OHMCH team has also had a very busy summer. The team has conducted successful clinics at the Muhlenberg County Fair, Hope 2 All, and Rides and Ribs at Lu-Ray Park. There are more appearances to come in Greenville and Central City, including the upcoming concert series at Lu-Ray in August. Also, the hospital held a successful on-site clinic on Wednesday, administering 102 vaccinations in a single day. This brought their total to 6,000 doses.
All of these efforts are good news to Chief Medical Officer Francis DuFrayne, MD, who says every vaccination counts. “These outreach clinics speak to the spirit and determination of our team members to make our communities safer from COVID-19.”
