Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital Recognized for Five-Star Care for Second Year

five gold stars

For the second consecutive year, Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital (OHMCH) has earned a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), a distinction that recognizes the high quality of care offered by OHMCH.

Ratings awarded by CMS measure the quality of care at more than 4,000 Medicare-certified hospitals and medical centers across the country.

CMS lists the complete Kentucky rankings on its Care Compare website (medicare.gov/care-compare/). OHMCH is accompanied by only four other Kentucky hospitals on the list of five-star honorees. This accomplishment is a repeat of the hospital’s 5-star rating in 2020. OHMCH has been operated by Owensboro Health since 2015.

Ed Heath, Chief Operating Officer for Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital, credits his team members for the hospital’s five-star rating.

“Delivering safe, quality care is the focus of every team member at OHMCH,” Heath said. “Having earned a 5-star designation for the second year in a row, during a pandemic, is a demonstration of our team's commitment. I am so proud that we are able to provide 5-star care to Muhlenberg County and fulfill our mission to heal the sick and to improve the health of the communities we serve.”

Variables weighed by CMS in its rating system include surveys of patient experiences, value of care and timeliness, among other factors. Chief Nursing Officer Kathleen Myer recognizes that these ratings are helpful for patients to consider when seeking care.

“Our five-star ratings reflect the effort of the entire team, from our governing board to every front-line team member,” said Myer. “For a facility to be recognized with five stars, its performance must be well above the average quality of healthcare. These CMS star ratings give people a way to consider quality, as well as cost, as they make decisions about their healthcare.”
