Pharmacy Robot Increases Safety, Efficiency

Owensboro Health Regional Hospital Inpatient Pharmacy recently installed a new robot that will help fulfill prescriptions for hospital patients, decreasing the chance for errors and increasing efficiency.

The robot, Omnicell’s XR2 Automated Central Pharmacy System, is a $1.7 million investment that uses a barcode system to scan and sort the medications needed for prescriptions. The robot will pull medications for hospital patients, bag, seal and label them before dispensing each medication for the pharmacy to dispense to patients.

This technology is in fewer than 100 hospitals throughout the country and demonstrates Owensboro Health’s dedication to patient safety. With a more efficient robotic system, team members have more capacity to focus on a clinical level and more time to be on the floor treating patients.
