Healthy Tips Video: The Importance of Spending Time With Family and Friends

Hello I'm Christa Flamion, counselor with Employee Assistance Program with Owensboro Health. Today's health tip is about the importance of spending time with family and friends. One of the important things that we have in this life is our relationships to people. And one thing that will always be there, is our family. No matter what, they're always going to be there. You can choose everything else in your life, but you can't choose your family.

One of the important things is to cultivate that relationship. Why? Because, we need to know what our loved ones are doing. They need to know what we're doing. It cultivates that bond. Even though sometimes we might get a little aggravated, frustrated, and let's face it, a little perturbed at our in-laws moms, dads, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles; we've all got them. But spending time with them and remembering them, because you can't ever go back. We're always moving forward.

Another thing is that if we isolate ourselves, it actually increases the chances of depression, anxiety, and all other sorts of mental health issues. Not only in us, but the people that we don't contact. So one of the important things if I can compel you to do is to reach out to your loved ones. I'm sure you're thinking of one right now in this moment, and call them today.
