Owensboro Health Contributes $40K to Muhlenberg Recovery Effort

OHMCH Relief Check Presentation

OWENSBORO, KY. (February 7, 2021) – Owensboro Health announced a contribution of $40,000 to the Muhlenberg County Long Term Disaster Recovery Fund, at a press conference held at the Bremen Community Center. The funds will be used to aid recovery in Bremen and other communities that were impacted by the Dec. 10 tornado that swept through Muhlenberg County.

After the storm, Owensboro Health launched a campaign to raise funds for the recovery effort—matching contributions from Owensboro Health team members as well as the public. The collection was managed by Owensboro Health Foundation, which also provided financial support.

“The storms have forever left their mark on Muhlenberg County, but in these difficult circumstances we see what makes our community so special—resilience, faith and the commitment to be there for each other,” said Ed Heath, chief executive officer for Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital. “We were here to serve Muhlenberg County on that unforgettable night, and we will continue to serve this community as it rebuilds—every step of the way.”

Between midnight and 6 a.m. immediately after the tornado, OHMCH treated approximately 15 patients who had sustained injuries from the storm, activating its emergency command center and increasing staffing in the emergency department.

“The silver lining to this very dark cloud for our county has been the overwhelming amount of support that has been provided,” said Dr. Freddie Mayes. “From onsite labor to supplies, to monetary contributions to emotional support, hundreds of people from all over the United States have shown tremendous compassion for those in need.”
