Owensboro Health Announces Two DAISY Award Recipients

In December, Owensboro Health delivered two DAISY awards to team members. The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The family of J. Patrick Barnes established the DAISY Foundation after he died from complications of an auto-immune disease in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way.

Congratulations to Owensboro Health’s latest group of DAISY Award recipients:

Jaclyn Roach

Jaclyn Roach, RN
Behavioral Health at OHRH

How long have you worked for Owensboro Health?
Since June 2021.

What made you want to become a nurse?
I’ve always loved to help people. I can’t think of a time there was anything else I wanted to be.

What is the most fulfilling part of your job?
I love being able to see people improve and get better while in my care. Even the smallest role I may play in that— it’s so rewarding!

How does it feel to be recognized for your work?
I was very shocked to receive this award but so very appreciative. Not only to the patient that nominated me but also to all the ones around me that help me strive to be better every day.

Lorrie Messer

Lorrie Messer, RN
Home Health at OHRH

How long have you worked for Owensboro Health?
10 years

What made you want to become a nurse?
When I was a kid, I would help my family on the farm, and we always would take care of our sick livestock. Dad would nurse them back to health. I saw that gentleness and thought I need to be that to those I come in contact with and help where I can.

What is the most fulfilling part of your job?
Seeing patient families in action to assist their loved ones back to health in the home environment.

How does it feel to be recognized for your work?
Humbling. I do not see glory in anything I do. I just want great outcomes and my patients to return to health.
