Owensboro Health Regional Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary recently donated approximately 140 blood pressure cuffs to Women’s Services. Hypertension disorders in pregnancy are a leading cause of maternal and perinatal mortality worldwide. The blood pressure cuffs will allow the Mother Baby staff to provide their obstetrical emergency department (OBED) patients who experience acute hypertension during pregnancy with blood pressure cuffs and encourage them to perform frequent blood pressure checks so they know when to seek medical attention.

Hypertension disorders in pregnancy are serious medical conditions that can lead to complications for both the mother and the baby. Acute hypertension during pregnancy can be especially dangerous, as it can lead to preeclampsia, a life-threatening condition that can cause seizures, stroke and even death. By providing blood pressure cuffs to OBED patients, the Mother Baby staff can help monitor their blood pressure and ensure they receive the care they need to prevent serious complications.

By encouraging patients to perform frequent blood pressure checks and know when to seek medical attention, the Mother Baby staff can help empower patients to take control of their health and reduce their risk of developing severe complications.

The donation of blood pressure cuffs by the Volunteer Auxiliary is a valuable contribution to the care of our patients.
