Emergency Preparedness Expo set for Sept. 13 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital
When you least expect it … expect it! Helping our community members develop a personal, planned response to natural and man-made disasters and other crisis situations, Owensboro Health is hosting an Emergency Preparedness Expo in the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital Café Meeting Rooms on Friday, Sept. 13, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We always hope for the best, but we need to be prepared for the worst,” says Katie Case, Emergency Management Specialist at Owensboro Health, who is leading the expo. “We want our community to be prepared and our citizens to feel confident when it comes to response in disasters.”
The event is in recognition of National Preparedness Month, sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The expo is free and open to the public and will feature exhibits by local first-responder agencies, utilities, law enforcement and medical response teams.
At the expo, guests can learn how to prepare for emergencies, including:
- Fire, water, gas and electrical safety
- Emergency first aid and CPR
- Hospital and county first response teams
- Severe weather preparedness
- Search and rescue
- Gun safety and active shooter precautions
- Preventing chronic health conditions
- Wilderness survival tips
Guests will also have the opportunity to tour HealthForce Kentucky’s mobile technology center, Healthforce 1.
Each guest will receive a free flashlight and, after visiting the exhibits, they may enter a drawing for a variety of safety-related prizes.
