Family Medicine Earns Special Designation
Owensboro Health Medical Group Family Medicine Breckenridge was recently named an Age-Friendly practice. This means they are committed to providing the best care for older adults.
In the next 30 years, the US population of people aged 65+ is expected to double. It's important that our healthcare system is prepared to meet their needs.
“We are excited to continue to advance geriatric care in our region,” said Geriatrician Andrew Collins, DO. “This designation will ensure that our older adults will receive excellent geriatric-centered care.”
Age-Friendly Health Systems is an Institute for Healthcare Improvement initiative that helps healthcare providers do just that. It provides them with guidelines to ensure that older adults receive high-quality care.
There are four key elements of Age-Friendly care:
- What Matters: Knowing and aligning care with each older adult's specific health goals and care preferences.
- Medication: Using medications that are safe and effective for older adults.
- Mentation: Preventing, identifying, treating, and managing dementia, depression and delirium.
- Mobility: Ensuring that older adults can move safely and independently.
The team at Family Medicine Breckenridge has worked hard to earn this designation, and it's a great recognition of their commitment to providing older adults with the best possible care.
Owensboro Health Regional Hospital also received this important designation in 2021.
