German American Bank Donates Books to NICU

This week, German American Bank made a special visit to the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital NICU to deliver a generous donation of books collected through their second annual book drive. This heartwarming tradition was inspired by bank employee Stella Nelson, a mother who once found comfort in reading to her premature son, Liam, while he was in the NICU. Reflecting on her experience, Stella shared, “My little boy was born at 28 weeks and spent 65 days in the NICU. As a NICU parent, there's not many things that you get to do for your baby. Reading to him was something I could do that made me feel like a mom.”

Now, as she watches Liam, who just turned five, thrive as the tallest child in his class, Stella hopes these books will bring a sense of normalcy to other NICU families.
Chad Hart, Director of Philanthropy at Owensboro Health Foundation, expressed deep appreciation for the generosity shown by German American Bank and their employees. “Stella knows what it’s like to be a NICU mom. She cherished the first sweet moments of reading a book to her baby, and she wanted to ensure other parents had that same meaningful moment with their little ones,” Chad said. “Owensboro Health Foundation is proud to connect donors to meaningful initiatives that support exceptional outcomes for patients and families.”
Representatives from German American Bank and Owensboro Health team members, including NICU Manager Stephanie Tuell and Neonatologist Dr. Bridget Burshears, joined in celebrating this act of kindness.
