Journee’s Story: Owensboro Health Nurse Recognizes Dr. Andrea Moore
On Monday, Sara, a critical care nurse at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, recognized Dr. Andrea Moore during the Owensboro Health board of directors meeting. Sara and her husband Joe recently welcomed their first child, Journee, at OHRH. Dr. Moore practices obstetrics and gynecology at the Owensboro Health Women’s Pavilion and also serves on the system board.
Labor and delivery did not go as planned for Sara and resulted in her hemorrhaging. “As a critical care nurse, obstetric hemorrhages are the scariest patients to take care of,” Sara recounts. Sara’s regular obstetrician was not available during this time, but Dr. Andrea Moore was on call and ready to take care of her and her husband.
Sara says Dr. Moore’s compassion, professionalism and reassurance during her delivery and the emergency afterward kept her husband from even having a chance to panic.
She even recalls Dr. Moore stating “You’re fine, I’ve got you,” to her as she awoke. In Sara’s recognition of Dr. Moore to the board, Sara noted, “You’re not my obstetrician. You took care of me like I was your patient for years.”
This was Sara’s first experience as an inpatient with Owensboro Health, and she details, “Every single person we encountered was everything that I, as a nurse, had hoped for.”
