March is National Athletic Trainer Month

Owensboro Health Orthopedics and Sports Medicine provides athletic trainers to local high schools, Brescia University and Kentucky Wesleyan College to ensure the health and well-being of student-athletes. These dedicated professionals work closely with school athletes and Orthopedic physicians to evaluate injuries, assess readiness to play, and provide first aid or emergency care.

March is Athletic Trainer Month, a time to recognize and appreciate the valuable contributions of these professionals. They play a crucial role in keeping athletes safe and healthy, allowing them to perform at their best.

Athletic trainers have a wide range of responsibilities, including:

  • Injury prevention: They develop and implement injury prevention programs to help athletes avoid injuries in the first place.
  • Injury evaluation: They assess and diagnose injuries and determine the best course of treatment.
  • Rehabilitation: They develop and implement rehabilitation plans to help athletes recover from injuries and return to play.
  • Education: They educate athletes, coaches, and parents about injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Athletic trainers are often the first medical professionals that student-athletes see when they are injured, and they play a vital role in ensuring that athletes receive the care they need to return to play safely and quickly. They are an essential part of the sports medicine team, and we wish to thank them for the difference they make in the lives of student-athletes.

Help us celebrate our athletic trainers!
