Owensboro Health is proud to be expanding healthcare for our communities. This spring, we’re introducing a new practice location, additional providers and new care models.

Owensboro Health at The Springs

A new primary care practice called Owensboro Health Primary Care - The Springs, located in the Springs Health Centre at 2200 E. Parrish Avenue, opened in March. Two providers with stellar local reputations — Sylvia Sweatt, APRN and Kelsey Pedley, APRN — have joined the Owensboro Health organization as part of this exciting development.

Sylvia Sweatt, an APRN, is a dedicated family practice healthcare provider. Sylvia's journey in medicine began in 1992. She offers comprehensive treatment for acute and chronic illnesses, wellness visits, CDL exams, and simple dermatology services for those age 12 and up. She is passionate about being a part of her patients' health journeys and puts the patient at the center of care.

Kelsey Pedley, an APRN, provides primary care services to patients of all ages. She focuses on personalized care and offers same-day appointments for urgent medical needs. Inspired by her mother, Kelsey values forming lasting patient relationships and guiding them toward healthier lives.

A New Focus

Owensboro Health Family Medicine, located in the Breckenridge Medical Building, under the expert guidance of Dr. Stacy Fazenbaker, offers a unique approach to healthcare known as Functional Medicine. Dr. Fazenbaker describes Functional Medicine to her patients as "root cause medicine," emphasizing a comprehensive perspective that delves deeper into the underlying causes of illnesses. This approach focuses on essential factors like nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress management and relationships, tailoring recommendations to suit each individual's needs.

Integrating Functional Medicine into a family practice has proven to be a rewarding experience for Dr. Fazenbaker, although it requires patients to be open to making lifestyle changes. “Functional Medicine is for people who are ready to take an in-depth approach to being healthier and feeling better,” she said.

Quality Care for the Aging

Owensboro Health Medical Group Family Medicine - Breckenridge was recently named an Age-Friendly practice. This means they are committed to providing the best care for older adults.

In the next 30 years, the US population of people aged 65+ is expected to double. It's important that our healthcare system is prepared to meet their needs. “We are excited to continue to advance geriatric care in our region,” said Geriatrician Andrew Collins, DO. “This designation will ensure that our older adults will receive excellent geriatric-centered care.”

Age-Friendly Health Systems is an Institute for Healthcare Improvement initiative that helps healthcare providers do just that. It provides them with guidelines to ensure that older adults receive high-quality care.

Owensboro Health remains committed to providing excellent care to the communities we serve. Just like you, we’re growing, evolving and changing to get better every day.
