Owensboro Health Hosting Colon Cancer Awareness Events

Inflatable Colon
Owensboro Health and the Kentucky Cancer Program are hosting a series of Colon Cancer education events across the health system this month. These informative days will feature resources such as preventive education, information about cancer care services and much more.

The events kick off on March 20 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro from 8 a.m. to 4:30, then travel to the Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Healthplex in Powderly on March 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., wrapping up at Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center in Leitchfield from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 28.

The Owensboro and Leitchfield events will feature an educational inflatable colon display. These incredible displays are large enough to walk through and learn how the colon works, as well as see different types of colon tissue and possible signs of cancer.

Each event will provide the opportunity for visitors to learn how colorectal cancer screening can prevent cancer entirely or catch it early, improving chances of survival, and ask an expert about ways to improve and maintain digestive health.

According to the Owensboro Health Cancer Registry, out of the top 10 cancers in Daviess County, colorectal cancer is ranked fifth in incidence (new cases). Colorectal cancer also ranks second in mortality (deaths) in Daviess County behind lung cancer. These deaths could be greatly reduced if individuals were getting their age-appropriate screening in a timely manner. Colon cancer often goes undetected since cancer symptoms do not present early. Screenings help by catching cancer early when it can be cured.

Owensboro Health invites everyone to attend these free events to learn more about keeping your colon healthy.
