Owensboro Health Outpatient Imaging at The Springs to Undergo High-Tech MRI Upgrade
In a bid to provide cutting-edge medical imaging services to its patients, Owensboro Health Outpatient Imaging at The Springs is set to upgrade its current 3T MRI machine to a new, state-of-the-art model in June. This significant enhancement aims to bring faster, more accurate diagnostic capabilities to the facility, promising a considerable improvement in patient care and service delivery.
The decision for this upgrade comes as a response to the age of the current equipment. “Technology in the medical field is advancing at a remarkable pace, and it's crucial that our facilities keep up to ensure that we provide the best care possible,” said Karen Dennis, Owensboro Health Director of Radiology-Outpatient. “The new MRI technology will be faster and feature the latest advancements, enhancing our diagnostic precision.”

As the process of upgrading the MRI machine is expected to take around six months, the hospital has plans to ensure that MRI services remain uninterrupted. Patients requiring MRI scans during this period will have access to an open MRI at the same location, ensuring continuous, high-quality care.
During the time it takes to install the new machine, Owensboro Health is deploying a mobile MRI unit at its Pleasant Valley Campus. Located near the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital Emergency Department, the mobile unit will be positioned to offer seamless service to patients during the upgrade. Communication regarding this temporary arrangement will be provided to all patients during scheduling, ensuring clarity and convenience.
This strategic upgrade is anticipated to substantially reduce wait times for MRI examinations, a critical factor in enhancing patient experience and outcomes. “Our goal is to minimize any disruption and maintain the level of service our patients expect and deserve,” said Dennis.
Owensboro Health is committed to ensuring that the transition during the upgrade period is as smooth as possible for its patients and their families. With patient care as the utmost priority, the health system looks forward to leveraging this technological advancement to offer improved diagnostic services, marking a significant milestone in the commitment to providing exceptional healthcare in the region.
