Owensboro Health Celebrates the Milestone of 20,000 Lung Cancer Screenings
Owensboro Health has recently reached a significant milestone: We’ve conducted 20,000 lung cancer screenings! This milestone highlights our steadfast commitment to proactive healthcare and the power of early detection - key factors that can truly save lives.

These screenings are vital for identifying lung cancer at its earliest and most treatable stages. Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths for both women and men in the United States. Alarmingly, the American Cancer Society estimates there will be around 230,000 new cases and over 125,000 deaths from lung cancer in 2025.
In Kentucky, we face significant challenges. According to the American Lung Association, we rank 50th nationwide for new lung cancer cases. The rate of new cases here is 84.9 per 100,000 people—well above the national average of 53.6. Addressing this issue is vital as it impacts many within our communities, including friends, family, and neighbors.
The good news is that early detection can dramatically improve the five-year survival rate for lung cancer. Our offerings, such as low-dose CT lung cancer screenings, robotic lung biopsies, and smoking cessation programs, are empowering local residents to catch lung cancer early or even prevent it altogether.
If you or a loved one is at high risk for lung cancer, we encourage you to speak with your doctor about the benefits of Low-Dose CT Lung Cancer Screening.
