What To Expect During Wound Care
Make the most of your visits to the Owensboro Health Wound Center by learning what to expect and how to prepare for your appointments.
Evaluating Your Wound
During your first appointment, a medical professional will thoroughly examine your wound, review your overall health and determine what conditions might be slowing your wound healing. He or she may recommend diagnostic procedures such as:
- Complete Blood Count and other lab tests
- Duplex Ultrasound, which measures blood flow
- MRI or another imaging procedure
- Transcutaneous oxygen monitoring, which records the oxygen level beneath your skin
Personalized Treatment
Your care provider will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan. Each time you visit us, we’ll assess your wound and, if necessary, adjust the plan to make sure you always get the best care for your needs.
You’ll most likely receive outpatient treatment. Feel free to drive yourself to therapy, and plan to spend between two-and-a-half and three hours at the Wound Center each time.
Wound Self-Care
Your medical team members will tell you how to care for your wound at home and protect it from further injury. Improve your outcome by following their instructions and avoiding tobacco use throughout your course of therapy.
