Kirsi N. Kuiper, MD

I wanted to positively impact the greatest number of people in my career, so family medicine was an early and obvious choice for me. I enjoy helping people, and medicine felt like the perfect opportunity to combine all of my interests. It incorporates a little bit of science, teaching, detective work and social work, and a whole lot of deeply rewarding interactions with others on a face-to-face level.

Considering that a love for people is the main driving force behind my career choice, I place a lot of value on the continuity of care provided in family medicine. I find joy in building rich and authentic relationships with my patients. I enjoy the variety in my specialty and the unique position of primary care providers to coordinate wholistic, big-picture care for their patients.

I love small-town life and appreciate the opportunity to work in a rural, underserved area with the support and backing of Owensboro Health’s network of high-quality resources. I have a passion for health equity and feel strongly that every person deserves excellent healthcare. We, as providers, we should all do our part to advocate for the patients we serve.

I also have a passion for behavioral health and addiction medicine. People are complex and messy, and that's okay with me. I want people to understand that my role is to preserve and improve their health, regardless of who they are, where they come from, or how many times they may have messed up.

I am also an amateur zookeeper. We have a lot of pets and plants and have adopted a lot of outdoor wildlife. I love birds and spend a lot of money on birdseed.
