Joy Ling holding award

Joy Ling was recently announced as the recipient of this Spring's Vicki M. Stogsdill Nursing Award. This coveted honor is bestowed upon a nursing student from the University of Louisville School of Nursing Owensboro extension who demonstrates exceptional dedication, skill, and leadership in the field of nursing.

The Vicki M. Stogsdill Award, named in honor of its namesake's dedication to nursing education and excellence, provides not only a $5,000 monetary prize but also an invaluable opportunity for the recipient. Winners commit to one year of employment with Owensboro Health, further embedding themselves in the mission to improve and care for community health.

Candidates for the award must exhibit not only academic excellence but also a deep commitment to the nursing profession, community service, and a style of servant leadership that includes advocacy and an eagerness to address and solve critical issues within healthcare.

Joy Ling expressed her honor in receiving the award, stating, “It is an honor to accept the Vicki M. Stogdill award for servant leadership for my time at the University of Louisville School of Nursing. I will continue to dedicate my time to my community and patient care after graduation.”

Ling's journey in healthcare began with a role as a nursing assistant in long-term care, fostering a profound passion for helping others and advocating for patient care. She is currently transitioning to a nurse circulator role in the operating room at Owensboro Health, where she looks forward to learning from and contributing to the surgical team.

This award emphasizes the University of Louisville School of Nursing's dedication to fostering future nursing leaders who are clinically competent and deeply engaged in community wellness and improvement. It represents a bridge between education and professional practice, encouraging students to apply their skills in real-world settings immediately upon graduation.
