Appointment scheduling is on hold until the health system receives more vaccine supply from the state. As more vaccines become available we will reopen appointment scheduling. Our current supply is enough to administer the vaccine to those who have a scheduled appointment, or are due for their second dose. Vaccine scheduling information at Owensboro Health

The Kentucky Department of Public Health (KDPH) is overseeing the COVID-19 vaccination process. Owensboro Health is currently administering the Moderna vaccine and will begin administering both the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine on Tuesday, January 19. 

If you meet the criteria below, you are currently eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as part of Phase 1a and 1b:

  • Healthcare workers and first responders who live or work in Kentucky
  • People who come into contact with infectious material (such as funeral home employees, janitors, etc.) 
  • Kentuckians age 70+ 

The state has asked that we NOT vaccinate any K-12 Educators or staff. They are establishing a plan to vaccinate this group. 

All who arrive for an appointment will be screened for eligibility when they arrive for vaccinations. If they sign up but don't meet the current criteria for eligibility, patients will not be able to receive a vaccination and will have to reschedule. Eligibility will be verified with either a workplace ID, badge or pay stub to prove vaccine-eligible employment, or an ID indicating date of birth.

What to know before scheduling your appointment

Do not schedule a vaccine right now if:

  • You have had a serious or anaphylactic reaction to any other vaccine in the past. You must talk to your doctor first.
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding (talk to your doctor first).
  • If you have had a positive COVID-19 test in the last 90 days. 
  • You have had any other vaccination in the past 14 days, including a flu shot.

Do not schedule your second dose now.  You will schedule your second dose while at your first shot appointment. Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require an initial vaccine and a booster. The Pfizer vaccine requires a booster 21 days later and the Moderna vaccine requires a second dose 28 days later. 

After you schedule your appointment

  • You will receive a confirmation email, text and/or MyChart message.
  • Log into MyChart to complete eCheck-in prior to arriving for  your appointment. 
  • Plan to bring your insurance card(s) to your appointment.
  • If you are eligible due to being a healthcare worker or first responder, bring your employee ID or other proof of employment, such as a paystub.
  • If you are eligible due to age, bring an ID that can verify birthdate.  
  • Also, bring your work schedule/calendar with you, as you will schedule your second vaccination while at this appointment.
  • You will be at your appointment for about 30-45 minutes. Plan to wait at least 15 minutes onsite after receiving your vaccine.

Who pays for the vaccine? 

  • The federal government is covering the cost of the vaccine itself, but health care providers are charging a fee (between $20-$30) for administering the vaccine. 
  • Please bring your insurance card so your insurance company can be billed.
  • No costs are passed on to individuals. You will NOT be charged.
