Pregnancy Care
When you’re with us, you can expect the best
From a lullaby that plays over our speakers to share your happy news to baby photos and specially designed mother/baby suites, we’ve worked hard to think beyond medical care. Because welcoming your baby into the world is one of life’s most sacred times. And we’re here to give it all the attention it deserves.
Mother/Baby suites
After recovery, we’ll move you to a private room with a calming and home-like atmosphere, where you and your baby can recover and get to know each other. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, movie channels and food service.
Kangaroo care
Here, we believe that bonding between a mother and her baby should begin immediately after birth. That’s why we encourage you to rest skin-to-skin with your baby for at least 90 minutes after delivery to help your little one stay warm. After our nurses dry off and diaper your baby, they’ll place your newborn on your chest covered with a warm blanket. During this time, your infant may even breastfeed.
Continuing this practice, which is often referred to as kangaroo care, has been proven to:
- Steady your baby’s temperature, heartbeat and breathing rate
- Improve your baby’s sleep
- Make breastfeeding easier
- Reduce your stress and discomfort
You and your partner may practice kangaroo care throughout your hospital stay and at home. In fact, we observe daily cuddle time every afternoon. During cuddle time, visitors other than your partner leave the room, lights are dimmed, and nurses enter only on your request.
Rooming in
We provide all care for you and your baby in your room, including your baby’s baths and screenings. Because we know the more time you spend together, the better you get to know each other.
The benefits of rooming in include: • Better sleep for you and your baby • Faster breastfeeding success • Hands-on experience caring for your baby before you go home • More time to bond

At Owensboro Health Regional Hospital
To help celebrate your new arrival, professional photographers can snap pictures of your infant and family while you’re at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, so be sure to bring a special outfit. And, with your consent, we’ll post your baby’s photo online to help you share your news with friends and family.
At Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center
Our nurses are happy to help you capture images during this special time. We’ve gotten good at this over the years and will likely suggest some “photo opps” during your stay. But don’t be shy about asking either. If a memory is important to you, it’s important to us.
Car seats
Ensuring your baby’s safety is a team effort. And every car seat is different. So, whether you’re a first-time parent or seasoned user, we’re here to help. Our team is specially trained to help you learn about your new car seat and make sure the straps are adjusted correctly before you head home. All you need to do is arrange for someone to bring the car seat to your room.
