Foot and Ankle Pain
When foot or ankle pain slows you down, we’re here to support your every step. With experienced podiatry and orthopedic teams who are ready to help you get to the root of the problem, we’ll make sure you get back to the life—and activities—you love.
Common Causes
Foot and ankle pain are common sources of frustration. That’s because it can be hard to tell the exact location of the pain. And because that area of the body involves small bones, ligaments and tendons—all of which heal at different rates. Most foot and ankle pain, however, is caused by an injury or overuse.
Common causes include:
- Arthritis
- Bursitis
- Diabetes-related conditions
- Dislocation
- Fractures, sprains and strains
- Gout
- Infection
- Malformations
- Morton neuroma
- Plantar fasciitis
- Tarsal tunnel syndrome
- Tendonitis
Treatment Options
At-home treatments like resting and icing your foot or ankle can reduce your pain. Over-the-counter medications like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), compression and supportive footwear can also help. But if the pain doesn’t go away, it may be time to see a doctor.
Depending on your condition, we may recommend a combination of these non-surgical treatments:
- Bracing
- Corticosteroid shots
- Joint aspiration
- Orthotics
- Physical therapy
- Prescription medications
If conservative treatments don’t work though, surgery may be needed. A wide range of surgical procedures can repair torn ligaments and tendons, relieve arthritis pain and restore functionality.
