Surgical Care Unit
In addition to pediatric cases, the unit also treats a wide variety of adult patients as well. Some of the specialties we treat include:
Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT)
Most patients recovering from ENT procedures will be treated on the Family Care Unit. Some of the common procedures we see include:
- Tonsillectomies
- Thyroid Removals
- Parathyroid Removals
Urology
Most patients recovering from urological procedures will be treated on the Family Care Unit. Some of the common procedures we see include:
- Kidney Stones
- Prostate Removals
- Urinary Tract Infections
Women's Surgery
Most patients recovering from women's surgical procedures will be treated on the Family Care Unit. We often care for expectant mothers suffering from nausea, and we treat all robotic-assisted hysterectomy cases. After these operations, patients are sent to our unit for extended rest or overnight stays.
Another service our unit provides is helping mothers and families who have lost newborn babies. We have special suites where we offer visitation services and grief counseling to families. Our staff is specially trained to handle these cases with care and compassion.

Intentional Rounding
Like all units at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, our nursing staff practices intentional rounding, a system where patients are checked at least once an hour and assessed for a variety of needs. We believe this system builds trust with our patients and improves satisfaction.
Staff
Our staff is tested every three months on core competencies and receives regular training and skills updates.
