Support from Tobacco Treatment Specialists
Owensboro Health employs Tobacco Treatment Specialists to help tobacco users kick the habit.
The specialists meet one-on-one with participants to discuss their triggers, concerns and previous attempts at quitting. They share skills to treat tobacco dependence and help the participant set attainable goals. They continue to have follow-ups with the participant to check their progress. This service is offered at NO COST to all members of our community.
Participants can meet with the specialists in person at the Healthpark, Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center, Owensboro Health Regional Hospital and at Pulmonary Rehab. They can also have sessions virtually or by phone.
TTS is available by appointment weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and interested individuals may walk in to Owensboro Health Outpatient Pharmacy and consult with a pharmacist about nicotine replacement therapy during regular pharmacy hours.
Why TTS
Because Kentucky has one of the highest rates of smoking and tobacco use in the nation, it’s an area of focus for Owensboro Health. There are significant health effects and increased medical costs for smokers and offering TTS is part of our commitment to decreasing the lung cancer mortality rate in the area.
About the Specialists
The TTS program is inspired by the UK HealthCare’s BREATHE program. Our specialists complete a course through BREATHE, which includes 27 hours of training, assignments and evaluations.
